Looking after the interests of others has been
taking place the focus of JobSeekers of Peachtree City since August
1998. Ernie Childs, Howard Tisdale and two other gentlemen started
JobSeekers of PTC after they attended a JobSeeker group that meets in
Dunwoody. The north side group started back in 1992. Howard, our
chaplain, has attended more meetings than anyone else — over 450
meetings. He says it's the best ministry he's ever been involved with.
Ernie led the group until the spring of 2000, when he took on a new
role as CEO of a biotech company. He continues to be involved with the
ministry, leading the group in my absence and also by serving in an
advisory capacity.
Dave O'Farrell came as a participant in February
2000; two months later he moved into a leadership role. When Ernie
announced he had to step down, the other leaders turned their heads in
unison and looked at Dave. For several months he held the dual role of
participant and facilitator. Later that year Dave won a great job at
Richardson, a Philadelphia-based consulting company, that allowed him
continue in the leadership role. He traveled around the country
teaching consultative selling skills at companies like Dell, Bank of
America, Sears, GlaxoSmithKline, and KPMG Consulting. He was in
Peachtree City more Fridays than not.
Since then he has started his own career coaching
business. At first the contracting dominated, but beginning in 2004
his business took off. This allowed Dave to be in town even more on
Friday mornings. Dave's business and ministry go hand-in-hand. He
loves helping people find their purpose in life and achieve their
goals.
Attendance at JobSeekers of PTC averaged
42 people
per week in 2007. Members
remark about how
positive and uplifting the experience is; in fact, many say it is
quite the opposite of what they expected. Our vision is to make
the service we provide to the community even more powerful -- reaching
more people and making better connections between employers and those
seeking employment.
